Growing up in suburban San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Carrasquillo always had numerous pets in the house including dogs, cats, hamsters, turtles, and birds.
This early exposure to animals, combined with his interest in science and medicine, led Dr. Carrasquillo to pursue veterinary medicine as a career. "Every day is a new adventure. No two days are the same," said Dr. Carrasquillo when asked what he likes best about being a veterinarian. "I've worked in veterinary hospitals in different capacities (kennel boy, technician, reception) since I was 17 years old." Now, as an associate veterinarian at Jones Bridge Animal Hospital since May 1996, he focuses his professional veterinary interests in dermatology, oncology, ultrasound, and dentistry.
Dr. Carrasquillo received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. He attended Kansas State University and North Carolina State University for his undergraduate studies and earned his bachelor's degree in animal science in 1992.
Today, Dr. Carrasquillo is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal Hospital Association.
Besides private practice, Dr. Carrasquillo donates his skill and time to community organizations and services. In October 2010, he traveled to the Dominican Republic to participate in a spay and vaccination campaign. "Volunteering in this campaign in a third-world country has been my most memorable experience as a veterinarian," he said.
Dr. Carrasquillo also served as an advisory board member for a major pharmaceutical company and acts as a veterinary consultant for a surgical suture company.
Dr. Carrasquillo and his family enjoy their time off with their young Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, "Nico." "Dr. C" also enjoys hiking, camping, traveling, biking, college sports, and updating himself on new gadgets and technology.
