Epilepsy may be effectively controlled through the use of anti seizure medication. These medications may cause problems if the dose is too high or too low. Because of this, we need to check drug levels every six months to ensure your pet is receiving the appropriate dosage. Phenobarbital may cause damage to the liver, therefore, additional testing needs to be performed to check liver values twice a year.
Medications used:
-Phenobarbital
-Potassium Bromide
Drug Monitoring:
-Therapeutic Blood Levels every 6 months. (Phenobarbital, Potassium Bromide or both)
-Complete Blood Count/Chemistry profile once a year
