Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories may play a role in controlling pain associated with degenerative joint disease.  Although this medication is very helpful in maintaining your pet's quality of life, NSAID's affect other organs such as the gastrointestinal tract, liver and kidneys.  Because of these potential side effects, it is important that we examine your pet and perform labwork at least twice a year

 

Drug Used: Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatories (NSAIDS) Carprofen, Previcox, Metacam, Deramaxx

Drug Monitoring:

                          -Check blood chemistry profile (liver/kidneys) before or after medication trial for 1-2 weeks.

                          -Kidney/Liver Blood test every 6 months

                          -CBC/Chemistry Profile once a year

                          -Pets over 8 years of age: examination every 6 months
